Dana Farber Benefits from Babson Entrepreneurship Students’ Fundraising of $20,000+

On Wednesday, October 28, approximately 40 Babson entrepreneurial students and instructor Len Green presented a check for more than $20,000 to Lynn Davidson and Ann Beach representing the Jimmy Fund Walk for Dana Farber Cancer Research.

For five years Babson entrepreneurship lecturer Len Green has concentrated on teaching students how to “think outside the box,” and to providing them with tools to be successful in the real world.  A number of his students have won business competitions and/or successfully launched their own businesses.

Green adds, “However, I was never as proud as I was on October 28 when my students presented a check for nearly $25,000 to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for the Jimmy Fund Walk.”

The groups also presented about a dozen videos (watch Jackie’s team) to the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund representatives who came to his class to receive the check. The videos included pictures of the Jimmy Fund Walk starring students, faculty, administrators and friends. Dana Farber may have plans to use these in their visits to other colleges.

The poster above, also presented to the Dana Farber guests, was designed and made by “Team Simply Put” whose members include Dan O’Connell, Alex Kravets, Ben Cox, and Andrew Kitzenberg.  The figures’ colors help to spread awareness, representing various cancers: pink for breast cancer, lavender for general cancer awareness, teal for ovarian/cervical cancer, light blue for prostate cancer, and yellow for liver cancer. The poster was presented, along with the check to the women from Dana Farber and

The students also took on a new project to advise Dana Farber on how to get more of the communities along the route of the run to become involved in the charity.

“I am very proud to be a teacher who is involved with the kind of students we have at Babson.  I am a firm believer that entrepreneurship can be the moving force and the living force to solve the social problems that we have," said Green.
